Today was Keira's first school Show & Tell. This Show & Tell is in culmination with their current class project which is to learn the difference between 'want' and 'need'.
Today the kids brought in their favourite toy of the moment to class. Keira spent 3 days carefully selecting and thinking about which of her toys she was going to bring in and finally selected: the Barbie doll she recently got as a gift from a friend. I thought she chose this because it was pink, sparkly and, well, Barbie. A commercial choice right? Wrong.
While we were getting ready to head out today, Keira kept asking me what country this Barbie was made from and where her friend Sydney lived. As I answered her, I asked her why she asked these 2 questions and she told me because this Barbie doll was special and worthy to show all her classmates because it came from her summer beach friend Sydney, occasionally her (Keira's) hair is done up like this Barbie (waves with bangs) and because it was a birthday gift. It just showed me that she does indeed associate objects with memories and emotions! It also showed me that she chose a toy that had a story to share with everyone else. Ah.. smart cookie.
