halloween redux

It's almost Halloween and once again, I have failed miserably to please the Keikster in the wardrobe department. She wanted me to make her a fairy costume.. specifically Sunburst from the Fairytopia Barbie series. I did go out and buy orange tulle, trimmings etc to make this costume a few months ago but haven't had time to put it together (let alone actually KNOW how to put it together). Then while we were on the hunt for some fabric for curtains, Keira spotted a gorgeous sparkly lace material and wanted me to make her a Merliah mermaid costume. So I shelled out and paid for the whopping 55$/metre fabric and it is also sitting in the basement, waiting to be transformed into a costume. #fail.

In the meantime, I also purchased (because I am such a pushover to my kid) about 3 other pre-made costumes for the kiddo: One princess burgundy concoction while we were at FAO Schwartz in NYC, a Merliah mermaid (Barbie folks, Barbie!) costume somewhere and an Alice in Wonderland costume from ToysRUs. This in addition to a whole closetful of others.. Keira will have plenty to choose from for Halloween day at school and the big event at night, right? I have no idea what she'll pick though..

I just saw Kristin's family halloween pics here (freaking amazing btw): KLTworks Sketchbook blog and thought I'd look back at some of Keira's costumes through the years. There's not a home-made costume in sight! sigh..

Keira's first Halloween.. We only made it to Grandmaman's house.. lol. Good thing too cuz she really wasn't a happy camper in this getup. Must've been the stripey legs.
Halloween #2: Ah yes, the daddy-went-on-business-and-got-Keira-official-Vikings-cheerleader-uniform! Turtleneck included.. Keira went as a.. Vikings Cheerleader! Those shower pods are supposed to be her pom-poms.. #fail
Halloween #3: The daddy-went-on-business-and-got-me-this-Care Bears-costume-cuz-mommy-told-him-not-to-come-home-without-it. This was the best costume by far: cute, fuzzy and most importantly: warm!
Halloween #4: The Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) costume worn to school the first year. Almost every girl in Keira's class was a princess. There is no peer pressure to be a princess, almost (not all) but almost all girls just innately want to be dressed like one.
And last year's costume, same Princess Aurora costume with funky headband added.. Pirates not included..

Can't wait to see what Keira will wear tomorrow night. Have so much fun! I can't believe that you are beating yourself up over not having made the costume. I think feeling guilty is pre-programmed in mother's minds. I'm sure whatever Keira ends up wearing she will have a blast!

What a fun progression/evolution of Halloween costumes. Keira looks so cute in all of them. I'm with her on the Care Bear one, though, especially since the end of Oct can already been so chilly. Coziness and warmth is essenial to trekking out in search of candy, hehe.
